Seasonal Weather in Koh Samui
Koh Samui has a tropical sea climate. Most people like it.
Sea water temperatures are rarely below 28 degrees Celsius. So it is beach season all year round - except rarer cases of high waves or thunderstorms.
For all months of the year average minimum air temperatures are 23 - 25 degrees Celsius (mostly at night time) and the average maximum 31 - 33 degrees Celsius (mostly at day time).
However the are seasonal differences in Samui which are also different to Thailands west cost like Phuket or Krabi on the Andaman Sea regarding the rainy season (monsoon).
Dry "Cool" Season from December until early March While the first half of December still can be influenced by a diminishing monsoon rain which usually peaks in November, the second half of December has very little rain. It is the "coolest" month and has a lot of sunshine. This dry weather continues until March and is the cooler part of the "dry season". There are cooling breezes but rather no or very small thunderstorms. It is mostly sunny and a little rainfall inbetween is rather refreshing than annoying. In this period the sea is mostly calm and clear.
Dry "Hot" Season from early March until April. In March and April it gets hotter while it is still hardly raining. The Songkran holidays and street festivities traditionally mark the turning point of the weather when it starts to rain again towards May.
Rainier "Hot" Season from May to August. From May until August there is only some more rain again and it still stays hot. Sunshine is still dominating all daytime but less so after May. The sea is normally calm. Sometimes thunderstorms develop during the afternoon.
Rainier "Cooler" Season from September to November. These are the wettiest months of the year and temperatures come down again. More and more showers occur.
